The Grand Design
The God’s were born to one, almighty God. Not as perfect beings, but as mortal in nature. She sits in the sky looking down at her creations, as they try their best to prove that they are worthy of the task they have been assigned. To take care of the hearts they are connected to.
The earth is not an inorganic being. It is a living organism. Should the earths various hearts be tainted or scathed in any way, the delicate balance of elements will be thrown off. Should a God fail to protect and nurture the heart they are birthed from, they will return to the elements and a new contender will take their place. The God’s of the heart are like a family lineage of sorts. They are created in a particular manner, with a certain image, a certain air about them. As they get replaced and reborn, they all show a certain resemblance to one another. Their traits vary slightly from God to God. Pinpointing traits that are worthy to stay through the rebirthing, and which ones have caused their downfall. Her final goal is to reach a perfect being such as herself, not through force, but through trial and error. What the God’s fear is the unknown, that they too, perhaps, are not the final draft. That there is someone else waiting in line to replace them the moment they slip up. How many drafts will it take for each of them to reach their final iteration?
The Hearts
The Pantheon
- The purpose of it all...
The pantheon of gods were created for one purpose, and one purpose alone; to protect
the hearts
[3] Earths Organs
they've been connected to. They have only been given the abilites of "gods," so far as it helps them protect the living being their creator
actually deems to be valuble. Though ruling over some land and
"playing" with some humans
[2] Patron Humans
[4] God's Interference
is deemed acceptable for now.
Each one of them has a heart of their own to look after. The heart itself is an organ for the earth, and the god in question, is physically tied to it. Despite their chest beating, its the thumping outside of their bodies they really need to worry about. If they fail to protect it, give it offerings, and keep it alive- or allow it to be
scratched or worse,
stabbed or torn... they are no longer around. A new replacement will form shortly afterwards from within the heart itsef, before unceremoniously spitting them out into the world. Each new god thats born bears resemblance to their ancestors one way or another. Whether it's startling red eyes, flaming hair, or a red hot hatred that can't be put out... Regardless of what it is, like a clay statue being melted down and resculpted, a resemblance is always present.
Their
dearest mother
[1] The Overseer
cant have her most precious creation die because her lesser ones keep getting into fights, or deciding to have a few too many ideas of their own. However, she expected this. They are, imperfect- it's simply within their nature to be rough around the edges... So, she gave them the cursed gift of
conditional mortality.
[5] Godly Mortality
Until one appears that seems fully polished, they'll simply keep perishing until one of them fits the mold. All but one have a decent amount of reforms, and seem more stable than their ancestors. The end goal of being able to coexist, peacefully tending to their duties- without the constant bloodshed, in theory, is closer and closer to being acheived with the more iterations of them that form. The more of them that die. Though truthfully, a lot of them have their doubts about ever being able to coexist without fighting.
[5] Godly Mortality - When the immortals fall
The gods are only immortal, so far as their bodies do not naturally age. They are spat out already grown, and their bodies do not change the way an aging persons would. They may grow
different overtime, as power fluctuates, but never weaker or worn down.
However, their bodies are not immune to damage,
resistant, yes.
Though they can still be harmed or killed by . . .
1) Other gods in the pantheon attacking them (their physical body)
2) Their heart being damaged or scuffed in any concievable way by themselves, another god, or a half-child.
3) The god inflicts damage upon themselves, conciously or unconciously
[6] God's Maintaining Humans - A slippery slope
Actions that a god may take to "maintain" or "upkeep" their humans (the ones living on their plots of land they claimed) can be any of the following; with the understanding that these actions are being taken with the proper precaution, and under the assumption the god in question has the power to manipulate said elements required to do the action.
* Clear away mass diseases, or pandemics that threaten to wipe out a vast majority of the population.
* Bless their crops / food supply with a good harvest / large yielding.
* Clean their water supply to avoid deadly bacteria spread.
* Use the sparkling cloud's rain over the humans cities, to keep the faith in the gods strong, so they continue to recieve offerings
* Clear away bad dreams while a human is sleeping.
* Force a human to sleep.
* Kill a human's body at will, to avoid a long and drawn out death.
* Take * * a few* * human souls near death, and transform them into godly helpers.
Things that a god is
Not supposed to do with their humans, and does not count as upkeep, though is not punished due to it's non lethal nature. It is however, frowned upon, and seen as stepping out of line if it's made into a habit.
* Copulating with any humans, of any kid, for any reason. Especially if it results in a half-child.
* Copulating with a half-child.
* Cursing a human with a strange and unusual condition (think midas' golden touch, not prometheus getting his guts eaten out forever)
* Attempting to maintain a human-based family structure with a human, either paired with or not.
* Warning a human, or group of humans, about an event that is about to take place. That they should have no knowledge of until it happens. (tsunamis, hurricanes, drouts, earthquakes, etc.)
* Pick a favorite out of a group of humans, and give them special treatment.
* Give blessed, or otherwise godly enchanced trinkets, tools, or clothing to a human. Either via a trade, reward, or gift.
Things that are
completely and utterly unnaceptable for a god to do involving humans, and
will be punished swiftly.
* Killing an otherwise healthy and safe human.
* Displaying any form of; godly talents, powers, spoken languages, auros, forbidden knowledge, or innerworkings of the sparkling cloud, and otherwise godly information not meant to be known by humans- to a human.
* Purposefully poisioning, cursing pain, or spreading diseases onto a human, or their food and water supply.
* Taking any human into the sparkling cloud, or godly locations barred off from human eye or access.
* Directly telling humans what to think about their feuds with one another. ("You should do xyz, what a deplorable person, you should kill them, etc")
* Letting a human, or half-child anywhere near the heart. This includes sharing its location, viewing it, or touching it.
* Purposefully maiming, killing, or torturing the half-children of other gods.
* Torturing or cursing a human with a cruel and unusual punishment that does not kill them.
* Turning a human into a full, or part animal.
* Preventing a human or half-child from giving birth.
* Barring off or preventing certain humans from crossing certain land borders.
* Telling a half-child that they are a half-child.
* Telling a half-child which god is their parent.
